To Whom it may concern:

Recently, there have been concerns raised about the levels of Heavy Metals. More specifically, the Lead levels in Reusable Shopping Bags. As one of the leading suppliers to the Reusable Shopping Bag market, Earth Savvy Products, LLC has taken a proactive position with regard to this situation.

Understanding that Earth Savvy Products, LLC is providing products with the intent of protecting the environment not contaminating the environment, we immediately forwarded our bags to an nationally recognized third party testing facility in the U.S. to be certain our bags are in compliance with current state regulations. The laboratory performed testing on a wide range of the bags we supply to customers around the world. The testing was done using the protocol recommended by the Toxins in Packaging Clearinghouse (TPCH). This testing protocol was developed in 1989 to test packaging materials.

This testing is specifically for four Heavy Metals; Lead, Cadmium, Mercury and Hexavalent Chromium. These Heavy Metals can be found in printing inks and other coloring mediums used to produce product packaging. This would include product packaging as well as plastic and paper bags with printed graphics. The allowable levels of these four Heavy Metals in packaging materials using the TPCH guidelines is 100 PPM by weight.

To date, these guidelines in some form have been adopted and put into law by 19 of the 50 United States and Commonwealths. These are State Laws (i.e. not Federal Laws) and are enforced by each individual State or Commonwealth.

Earth Savvy Products, LLC bags that were tested all passed the TPCH guidelines with results of well under 100 PPM by weight of the combined weight of the four heavy metals. This testing was performed within the protocol on all components of the bags to include:

  • Non woven Polypropylene material
  • Various colors of printing ink
  • Polyethylene inserts
  • Foam lining
  • Zipper Track
  • Zipper material

The test findings of the many bags tested had a range of 13.0 PPM by weight to 27.6 PPM by weight of all four Heavy Metals. Again, when compared to an allowable TPCH level of 100 PPM by weight of these four heavy metals combined, our results are well within the safe limits.

Properly disposed of, our Reusable Shopping Bags do not need to end up in a land fill. Because our bags are produced primarily from Non Woven Polypropylene they are recyclable as recycle #5. Polypropylene is the same material used to produce some plastic containers like yogurt containers, medicine bottles and syrup bottles to name a few.

Earth Savvy Products, LLC is committed to protecting the environment by reducing the number of plastic bags that end up in landfills, as highway litter or washed down storm sewers and into our waterways and eventually the oceans. We work with credible certified suppliers in China and require them to supply Earth Savvy Products, LLC with products manufactured to meet the guidelines set forth by the U.S. States and Commonwealths.

Earth Savvy Products, LLC
